I love handmade books, the feel, the look, the smell – Canberra Photographer

I love books, particularly handmade limited edition books. There is something so wonderful about the feel of a book that I am sad to say the latest electronic gizmos do not have. The beautiful thing about a book is once it is created you only need your hands and heart to enjoy it (no batteries to charge). This is a new product that I have launched for portrait and weddings and perhaps some special businesses who would like to have a lasting document of their business.

These books have been 6 years in the making  (they have been an idea in my head for about 5 and a half years) and I am so excited to share them with you. now  They are hand made by a beautiful Canberra Book binder, Joy Tonkin. I do the layouts and print them on beautiful archival cotton rag paper with pigment inks..and I give the pages to Joy. She then stitches them into these wonderful books. No book will be the same. They are truly bespoke. (I love that word). They are limited edition only you will have a copy of them.

The other thing I am passionate about is creating beautiful objects that will last.  Objects that are stylish not fashionable. This is what inspired me to make these books and is a core philosophy of my business. I hate the idea that what I produce will be out of fashion and  part of landfill in 5 years time. I aim to produce beautiful, long-lasting artworks. Heirlooms.

I am also producing limited edition fine art prints. They are printed the same way as my books on beautiful fine art cotton or bamboo paper and are framed so you can see the whole print floated in the frame. Like an art work. The frames are made by a local Canberra framer who frames to to the highest archival standards and they only uses sustainable timbers (Victorian Ash) for their frames. The frames are simple and classic and allow the images to sing.
